Thank you for your interest in Five Mile River Nursery School for the 2020/2021 school year. Five Mile River Nursery School provides a warm, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere allowing children to be creative and adventurous learners. Our school focuses on the development of the whole child: intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Educational philosopher Robert Maynard Hutchins said, "The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives." We look forward to forming a partnership with you. Together we can sustain your child's growth in becoming active, creative and reflective life-long learners.
The Five Mile River Nursery School was privileged to be the first program in the State of Connecticut, and one of the first seventeen in the nation, to be reaccredited under the new strict NAEYC Standards.

We will place children from the 2s into the 3s, the 3s into the 4s, and 4s into the 5s PreK programs considering first the needs of all the children, and then based on the following priority system: children of Rowayton United Methodist Church members, children of Five Mile River Nursery School Council members, siblings, and balanced male and female. We also consider if the child is a sibling of children presently or previously enrolled, and the teachers’ recommendations for the appropriate placement for the child, based on the child’s age and development. If all priorities are equal, a collaborative decision is made with the Administration and members of the Nursery Council as to placement for each child. Thereafter, children are placed according to lottery. Otherwise, the Five Mile River Nursery School does not discriminate based on ability to pay, physical disability, race, creed, family status or national origin. We make every accommodation possible in order to provide a well-rounded and appropriate preschool experience to include all children.
