Education: Bank Street College M.S. Special and General Education
Miss Kate began teaching in 2002, while pursuing a masters from Bank Street College in New York City. Miss Kate graduated with an M.S. in Special & General Education, during which time she gained experience in special education at the Windward School and The Gateway School. In addition, Miss Kate has extensive experience teaching in general education settings, including St. Bernard’s School, The Episcopal School, and Convent of the Sacred Heart. Prior to that, Miss Kate got a B.A. from Kenyon College, where she majored in art history.
Miss Kate has been a resident of Darien for over 12 years, where she lives with her husband and two daughters, who are entering sixth and third grade. Miss Kate enjoys spending time with her family and has a passion for sports and exercise including running, tennis, skiing and yoga. Some of Miss Kate’s favorite children’s books are Sylvester And The Magic Pebble, The Day The Crayons Quit, and In The Night Kitchen.
Miss Kate’s teaching philosophy is predicated upon helping students have a positive first school experience by fostering their sense of curiosity, independence, responsibility, and love of learning. Miss Kate is interested in both language and social/emotional development, and how these developmental areas promote discovery, observation, inquiry and play. Miss Kate believes every moment of the day presents an opportunity for learning and development. She looks forward to teaching with Miss Kristin in Pinkney Place!
